The direct version

Right now this site earns nothing. We are in no affiliate programs, there are no paid links anywhere on it, and we have nothing for sale. If you clicked a link on this site today, nobody paid us for it.

That will change, and this page changes with it before it does, not after.

Two things are planned. We expect to join affiliate programs for equipment, salt and test kits, which pay a commission when you buy after clicking. You would pay the same price either way: we do not get a discount to pass on and you do not pay a markup. And we intend to sell our own guides, written by us, no third party involved. When either of those goes live, it gets named on this page and the date at the top moves.

Where our interests line up with yours, and where they do not

Worth being specific rather than leaving it at “we only recommend products we believe in,” which everybody says and which means nothing.

Where we are aligned. We make nothing when your salt cell dies. A pool store makes $700 to $1,100. That is the whole reason this site’s central advice is to diagnose before you replace, and it is advice a retailer has no commercial reason to give you.

Where we will not be aligned. Once we sell a guide, we make money when you buy one, including in cases where you could have worked it out yourself from the free pages. And once there are affiliate links, we have some incentive to send you toward buying equipment. Those are real conflicts and pretending otherwise would be the tell. The rules below are what we hold ourselves to instead.

The rules we hold ourselves to

1. No brand keywords in our page titles. We do not build pages designed to intercept people searching for a part number, because those pages exist to monetize rather than to inform.
2. No paid links, guest posts or sponsored content. Nobody can buy a mention here. Vendors ask; the answer is no.
3. No manufacturer has any say over what appears on this site. We are not affiliated with any equipment maker.
4. We say when the answer is to buy nothing. Sometimes the fix for a failing cell is a $12 bottle of acid, and we will say so even on a page with affiliate links on it.
5. We do not invent reviews. There are no testimonials on this site that did not come from a real customer, which currently means there are none at all. When there are, they will be real and attributed.
6. Affiliate links get labelled where they appear in a list or a recommendation, not just disclosed once at the bottom of a long page.
7. Anything we sell carries a “who this is not for” section naming real situations where you should not buy it. If you ever find that section has quietly disappeared, stop trusting us.

None. This section will list every program by name, what it covers, and any wording the program itself requires, from the day we join the first one.

About prices and figures on this site

Prices we quote for equipment come from retailer listings on the date we checked, and we link to the source so you can see the current number. Pool equipment pricing moves, and a figure in an article is a snapshot rather than a quote. Nothing on this site is an offer to sell equipment at a stated price.
